Milwaukee Bathroom Remodeling: Starting Your Bathroom Project Right
There are enough opportunities for unforeseen challenges during a bathroom remodeling project no matter how careful you are. However, there are ways to minimize problems if you follow a few easy steps in the beginning. Milwaukee Bathroom Remodeling offers these tips for getting your bathroom remodeling project started right.
- Even if your contractor verbally agrees to do something you request, make sure everything is in writing. Before one tile is removed from the wall, you and your contractor should each agree and sign off on a very detailed contract. The contract should include a time line of the work to be done, the specific materials to be used, a provision for making changes, how the property will be left at the end of each day, the total price and a payment schedule. Feel free to add anything else that applies to your project or your agreement. Everything in writing will help minimize any disputes later.
- Again, before any tile is disturbed, make sure you have received proof of insurance from the contractor. Your peace of mind depends on knowing he/she is covered and you are protected.
- Make sure everyone knows and agrees to the project time line and the responsibilities of each party. Who is responsible for buying the tile? Who will be buying the fixtures, the sink, the lights, etc? When should each piece be on site? Stay on top of the time line to make sure everything is going as anticipated but also be realistic about any delays that occur due to unexpected situations. Address any questions immediately. Don’t allow things to go on and on without being resolved or answered.
During the project, frequent communication is critical. If possible, daily contact is important so you can monitor the progress of the project and ask any questions you may have for the contractor. By the same token, the contractor needs to have access to the homeowner so he/she can get questions resolved quickly as well.
And before final payment is made, homeowners should inspect the bathroom to make sure it’s completed per the contract. All errors and touch ups should be finished to your satisfaction before handing over the final payment.
